Lloyd impressed when coming off the bench against Scotland and was given the nod to start in this game. Alex Mann was another that impressed off the bench last weekend and is given his first international start at 6.

England v Wales Preview
England Form
Form Coming into the 2024 Six Nations
England opened their RWC campaign with a 27-10 victory against Argentina and while they were underwhelming at times, they quietly went about their business topping Pool D before defeating Fiji 30-24 in the Quarter-Final. They narrowly lost in the Semi-Final 15-16 to South Africa before beating Argentina again this time in the Bronze Final 23-26.
2024 Six Nations
England overcame an Italian scare in their opening Six Nations fixture, winning in Italy to a 24-27 scoreline with Italy grabbing a losing bonus point for their three-try effort, which was more than England’s two.
Had it not been for a poor second-half showing Italy could’ve had their first-ever victory against the English, nevertheless in their typical stoic fashion in recent months was enough to see Steve Borthwick’s side win.
Wales’ Form
Form Coming Into The 2024 Six Nations
Wales came into this tournament following their Pool C victory at the last RWC with four victories from four matches including an impressive 40-6 win against Australia. However, they were then eliminated at the Quarter-Final stage 17-29 against Argentina.
2024 Six Nations
It was a tale of Jekyll and Hyde for Wales in their opening round against Scotland. Despite a diabolical showing in the first half Scotland had a 20-point lead.
However, 4 Welsh second-half tries, meant they just fell short of the Scots losing on a 26-27 scoreline with a losing bonus point for their four tries.
England Attack v Wales Defence
England, despite their bronze showing at the most recent RWC, are in a period of transition in their squad and are a far cry from the side which was so dominant only a few years ago. They’re particularly struggling going forward being outscored by Italy in the try tally in their last game 3 to 2 with the English tries coming from Elliot Daly and Alex Mitchell.
George Ford made 1/2 conversions and 5/5 penalties against the Italians, and he remains their main points threat with his exploits from the tee.
Wales, also a team in transition, showed two sides to their performance against Scotland so it’s difficult to know what to expect from them against England. However, four of the first six were given less than 50 minutes against Scotland so it’ll be interesting to see who retains their place against England.
Wales Attack v England Defence
Wales against Scotland scored four tries, the first coming from flanker James Botham, Rio Dyer and Aaron Wainwright before another flanker Alex Mann got their last. Wales gained more metres against the Scots showing they do pose a running threat and ability if they can come into this game on song from the start.
Although England won a bonus point against Italy, for me if they can maintain their concentration this is the last thing that they should be worried about against Wales. They can keep things tight and competitive even when not at their best so I wouldn’t expect them to lose many games heavily.

Key Players
George Ford – England
The man who proved pivotal to England’s earlier victories at the RWC in Farrell’s absence will be looking to cement a starting spot his talents deserve. However, with Marcus Smith out with injury, he made 1/2 conversions against Italy and 5/5 penalties.
While less flashy than his rival for the 10 jersey, he remains a key cog in the wheel for England
Aaron Wainwright – Wales
The Man of the Match put in a decent showing in the first half despite Wales’s overall dismal performance. However, it was in the second half where he put in a colossal showing.
Wainwright was their primary go-to man for lineouts where he carried dynamically and aggressively and was even awarded with a try for his efforts. The man who plays his club rugby with Dragons could be one of the emerging leaders in this Welsh side.
England v Wales Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: England 17-25 Wales
England have made a habit of putting in rather unremarkable performances in recent weeks and months and yet more often than not finding a way to emerge victorious from battle which can’t be discounted but Steve Bortwick’s side remains very much a work in progress.
Wales are another side in transition, and it remains to be seen whether their first half or their second half showing is a more accurate representation of where they stand in World Rugby at the moment.
England should have enough to see off any Welsh threat, but I don’t suspect they’ll do that in any sort of style.
Best Bet: England by 1 to 10 Points @ 17/10
