KOLON BENIT signed a strategic cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Rebellions on September 25 to collaborate on AI technology and expand the market. KOLON BENIT teams up with Rebellions, an AI semiconductor company focused on neural network processing units (NPUs), to expand the “AI acceleration” market and strengthen Korea’s national competitiveness in the global AI ecosystem.

The AI acceleration service is a business area that provides technical consulting along with AI-specific hardware and software to increase the reasoning power of AI. The key is to build AI-specific infrastructure and business models to process data quickly and optimize resources. NPUs are semiconductors optimized for computing deep learning algorithms, a key role in AI, and are more energy efficient and faster than GPUs.

KOLON BENIT will help Rebellions advance its NPU technology and optimize it for enterprise environments. The goal is to improve the performance of AI NPU technology and internalize it to enterprise customers, reducing their dependence on GPUs and boosting the growth of domestic AI companies. Currently, the global AI semiconductor market is expected to reach 54 trillion won by 2030, but sales of GPUs, which are widely used as AI semiconductors, are monopolized by a few companies.

The two companies will work together to develop and commercialize AI solutions, expand NPU business partnerships, and conduct technology and business feasibility verification projects. The ‘Construction Site Safety Monitoring AI CCTV Business Demonstration Project’ scheduled for later this year will verify the “AI Vision” technology applied to Rebellions’ new NPU “ATOM” and check the possibility of new commercialization.

The agreement with KOLON BENIT, which has an AI business network, is expected to enhance the competitiveness of Rebellions’ AI semiconductor business. Together, the two companies will develop AI acceleration services that will be completed with KOLON BENIT’s AI R&D capabilities and Rebellions’ NPU technology. The two companies will also leverage the friendly business partnership secured through the “KOLON BENIT AI Alliance,” which includes more than 60 AI-specialized companies in Korea.

“We want to deliver the AI semiconductor technology that Rebellions has been developing to our customers as a complete service,” said Park Sung-hyun, CEO of Rebellions.” “We will work with KOLON BENIT to discover best practices for NPUs to be utilized in real corporate business environments and demonstrate the potential of new AI business models.” “With Rebellions’ NPUs optimized for high-performance algorithmic computation, we will expand the ecosystem of high-value AI semiconductors,” said Kang Ee-gu, CEO of KOLON BENIT. ”We will go beyond providing solutions and services to complete the value chain of AI new businesses that provide greater value to customers, accelerating their growth and transforming their business models.”
