Bartronics inks MoU with S’pore’s PTW to boost semiconductor sector

Hyderabad: Fintech business solutions provider Bartronics India Ltd inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Singapore-based semiconductor solutions provider PTW Group to boost India’s semiconductor industry. The move, marking PTW Group’s entry into the Indian market, will see a merger of PTW and Bartronics to set up production, refurbishing, and training facilities in India to cater to the growing demands of the semiconductor industry.
“This will drive innovation in products, services, and training, thereby transforming the Indian semicon landscape. Additionally, it will support R&D, manufacturing, workforce training, and international collaborations, aligning with India’s goal of becoming a global semiconductor hub,” Bartronics said.
PTW Group managing director Torsten Seifried said, “We are excited about the potential for semicon production equipment in India, especially in the power-semi segment. With the Bartronics collaboration, we aim to quickly gain local knowledge of the Indian market and address the immediate potential to help with emerging fabs in India. In the long term, we aim to establish India as a key development, production, and refurbishment centre for our global operations.”
TOP2, a consulting firm from Singapore, is advising PTW and Bartronics on the proposed merger. Bartronics said it views proposed merger as an opportunity to reinforce its role as a technological pioneer. The company, which introduced barcodes, smart cards, RFID technologies in India, now sees country’s semiconductor industry as a growth opportunity.
Bartronics managing director N Vidhya Sagar Reddy said the proposed merger will bring advanced semiconductor technologies to India, creating new opportunities for local manufacturing, training, and R&D, which will bolster India’s position in the global semicon landscape.
PTW, which has a presence in over 14 countries, is the only refurbisher in the world that has ‘approved vendor’ status with more than 700 fabs around the world, including market leaders like TSMC, UMC, Global Foundries, Sony, Samsung, Micron, ST Micro, Infineon, Texas Instruments, among others. Their capabilities in acquiring, refurbishing, and commissioning power semiconductor equipment at competitive cost align perfectly with India’s ambition of liberalising the semiconductor market, Bartronics said.
