Alpha HPA expands supply to the semiconductor sector – Australian Manufacturing Forum

Alpha HPA expanded its capability to supply high purity alumina materials to the semiconductor industry, according to a statement released by the company on Tuesday.

The company reported recent customer test results and a new Letter of Intent to meet demand from AI-driven data centres and next-generation power electronics.

Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) testing confirmed that Alpha HPA’s particle shape and impurity profile delivered superior performance potential, according to the company. End-user testing on silicon carbide substrates showed the material achieved over 50 per cent higher removal rates while maintaining substrate smoothness.

This announcement followed confirmation in January that the company’s HPA products offered thermal conductivity and purity for semiconductor thermal interface materials.

“The semiconductor sector is a key focus for the Commercial team, with attractive pricing and demand pull from significant AI data centre growth and power electronics,” said Alpha HPA Managing Director Rob Williamson.

The company secured a Letter of Intent for commercial volumes from both its Stage One facility in Gladstone, Queensland, commencing in 2025 and 2026, and for its larger Stage Two facility set to launch in 2027.

The semiconductor sector is experiencing growth driven by artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and power semiconductors related to the global energy transition.
