Australia Ruby gets its first test match of the season against a European national team on at 5:40 a.m. on July 6 at Allianz Stadium in Moore Park, Australia as the Wallabies host Wales.
Both nations are ranked in the World Rugby top-10 and both are in similar stages of development, according to FloRugby reporter Philip Bendon.
“It’s incredible, the parallels between Australia and Wales, right?” Bendon said. “They’re both fiercely territorial in terms of their regions. They don’t always get on the same page. And as such, the infrastructure has not been great.
“Both unions have had a big sweep out, big clean out where they’ve kind of tried to modernize and catch up to the likes of Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and England.”
Both teams have veteran coaches who have success in the pass. For Wales, it’s country’s greatest coach in his second tenure running the team, Warren Gatland. For Australia, it’s former Ireland coach Joe Schmidt in his first year leading the Wallabies.
Wales already lost a summer test match in June to No. 1 South Africa and now faces a hungry Australia team.
