The Six Nations weekend gets underway on Saturday afternoon with an Ireland side with Grand Slam aspirations taking on a Wales side yet to find a win in their first two matches.

The match takes place in Dublin, with the home side aiming to become the first team to win back-to-back Grand Slams in 26 years, and the first nation to do it since the tournament’s expansion at the turn of the century.

Andy Farrell’s side started their title defence with a record-breaking win in Marseille; their 38-17 win their biggest ever away victory over France, which was also the French’s heaviest home defeat in the Championships for 110 years.

A week later, Ireland achieved a 36-0 shutout win against Italy in Dublin, keeping their first clean sheet in the tournament for 37 years, which also made it the first time Italy had ever failed to score a point against the Irish in a match.

As a result, Ireland lead the Six Nations standings by two points heading into week Round 3, having picked up try bonus points in each of their matches so far.

Wales make the daunting trip to the Irish capital having lost their two opening encounters, starting off on the wrong end of Scotland’s first victory at the Millennium Stadium for 22 years, as the Welsh couldn’t quite pull off a comeback from 27-0 down, eventually losing 27-26.

Round 2 saw Warren Gatland’s side come up just short against England at Twickenham, giving up a nine-point lead at half time to end up losing 16-14.

Saturday afternoon’s other Six Nations match sees Scotland welcome England to Murrayfield, looking for revenge after they were denied a last minute-winner against France a fortnight ago in front of their home fans which would have left them with two wins out of two.

As it was, the try was disallowed and France returned home with a 20-16 victory, leaving the Gregor Townsend’s side third in the standings just three points behind their opponents on Saturday.

England are the side who can rival Ireland’s attempt at a Grand Slam, having picked two slender victories in their opening matches, starting the campaign off with a 27-24 win in Rome, before their narrow home win over Wales a fortnight ago.
