Coherent Corp. names Lattice Semiconductor executive as CEO; shares rise in early trading
PALMER TWP., Pa. — Coherent Corp., a maker of lasers and network equipment with operations in Northampton County, has named MIT graduate and semiconductor industry veteran Jim Anderson as its new chief executive.
Shares in Coherent rose in early trading Monday after the announcement.
Anderson succeeds Vincent “Chuck” Mattera Jr., who is retiring as chairman and chief executive.
Anderson was chief executive and president of Lattice Semiconductor, based in Oregon. He has also worked at Advanced Micro Devices, Intel, Broadcom and LSI Corp. He has degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Purdue University and the University of Minnesota.
“I am deeply honored to join Coherent, a company I have long admired, as its next CEO,” Anderson said in a company statement.
Coherent Corp. is based in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh, and has a plant in Palmer Township. It has customers in the communications, electronics and instrumentation industries.
Enrico DiGirolamo, chairman of Coherent’s board of directors, thanked Mattera for guiding the company.
“Chuck Mattera has been in around this industry for almost half a century,” DiGirolamo said, and he guided Coherent’s growth to its current $10 billion market capitalization.
Shares in Coherent are traded as COHR on the New York Stock Exchange. At 9:47 a.m. Monday, Coherent shares traded at $66.35, up 16% from Friday.
