First 90 military members receive semiconductor certification through SU, Micron

The first 90 transitioning servicemembers, veterans and military spouses received their certification in semiconductors on Tuesday.

The achievement was announced by Micron and the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans & Military Families at Syracuse University. It was the university’s first-ever “Micron Day” event. The 90 were certified through the IVMF’s Onward to Opportunity program, which helps to get people on a path to a career with semiconductors.

Syracuse University Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives & Innovation and Executive Director of the D’Aniello IVMF J. Michael Haynie said he was pleased to partner with Micron for the Onward to Opportunity program.“

“Thanks to Micron’s generous support, transitioning service members, veterans and military family members are now accessing high-quality, no-cost career preparation to enable them to enter and thrive in the semiconductor industry,” said Haynie. This is a win-win for these individuals who will be better equipped to attain well-paying jobs in a high-growth field as well as companies like Micron that will benefit from their talent.”

The 90 who received the certification hail from military installations across the nation, including two from Fort Drum.

Around 204 participants are set to receive their certification in the coming months.
