Gov. Hobbs announces latest efforts to bolster Arizona’s semiconductor industry

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs announced new efforts to improve Arizona’s workforce and continue supporting the booming semiconductor industry.

Working with the Arizona Commerce Authority and Maricopa Community Colleges, Gov. Hobbs announced the fifth installment of the Future48 Workforce Accelerator on Thursday morning.

The Future48 Workforce Accelerators launched in June 2023. The program gives students a direct pipeline for in-field experience and helps them secure jobs in Arizona’s growing high-tech industry.

“Continuing to grow the talent pipeline for this industry is only going to continue to grow our success,” said Hobbs.

It’s part of the state’s plans to double the number of construction and trade-registered apprentices by the end of 2026 and increase access to pre-apprenticeship programs, crafting new career pathways, especially for women and other underrepresented learners in the trades.

This is the latest effort in a longer-term and ambitious plan to have 60% of Arizonans obtain credentials through certificates, licenses, technical programs or degrees by 2030.
