Nagpur, Mar 1 (KNN) The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), in collaboration with the US Consulate, is drafting a white paper to advance India’s Semiconductor industry.
The report will outline the needs of India’s domestic sector while incorporating perspectives from US stakeholders, particularly on intellectual property rights (IPR) and technology transfer.
Sources indicate that the white paper will be ready by June and will be submitted to the central government, state governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat, the US Consulate, and other stakeholders.
Discussions with industry leaders began in Mumbai, followed by a second roundtable in Nagpur on Friday. Additional meetings in Pune and Ahmedabad will contribute to the final recommendations.
Indian industry leaders have expressed strong interest in acquiring semiconductor technology from the US. Meanwhile, American counterparts are open to collaboration but emphasise the importance of a robust IPR ecosystem in India.
Given the capital-intensive nature of semiconductor manufacturing, Indian firms are also seeking government incentives to boost the sector.
Brenda Soya, Officer for Public Affairs at the US Consulate, highlighted that these discussions align with the Transforming the Relationship Utilising Strategic Technology (TRUST) initiative, reaffirmed by former US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This initiative seeks to enhance US-India technological cooperation.
Maharashtra’s Joint Director of Industries, Gajendra Bharti, noted that the state already has a semiconductor policy in place but emphasised the need for a broader framework that supports the entire supply chain.
IACC representatives also visited the Mihan-SEZ and expressed interest in attracting US investments to the region.
The upcoming meetings in Pune and Ahmedabad will further refine policy recommendations, shaping a roadmap for India’s semiconductor future.
