The establishment of the VSIC is a critical component of Vietnam’s broader strategy to cultivate its semiconductor industry. In his address, the Deputy Minister of Finance emphasised that the centre, along with the startup incubation space, would provide a crucial platform for connecting Vietnamese startups with universities, research institutes and businesses, both domestic and international.

This collaboration will help develop a skilled workforce for the semiconductor sector while supporting local startups to grow and succeed in this high-tech field, fostering innovation and contributing to the country’s technological advancement.

The Director of NIC highlighted that the launch of the VSIC represents a significant milestone in Vietnam’s efforts to become a global leader in semiconductor innovation. The initiative aligns with the Party and State’s policy of advancing science, technology and innovation through public-private partnerships.

With this commitment, the semiconductor industry in Vietnam is set to expand rapidly, with goals to train 50,000 semiconductor engineers by 2025 and establish 100 chip design companies across the country.

The Chairman of one of Vietnam’s leading technology firms expressed that the launch of the VSIC is not only a pivotal moment for the semiconductor industry but also a demonstration of Vietnam’s commitment to advancing technology and innovation.

He noted that the establishment of the centre would not only contribute to the growth of local talent but also enhance the country’s competitiveness in the global semiconductor market, positioning it as a dynamic regional hub for innovation and investment.

A senior representative from a key semiconductor partner underscored the importance of the VSIC, describing the event as more than the opening of a new facility. It is viewed as a gateway to unlock the potential of Vietnam’s technical talent, providing opportunities to foster innovation and accelerate advancements in semiconductor technology.

The centre is expected to play a key role in bridging the gap between local and international semiconductor industries, fostering collaboration and further elevating Vietnam’s standing in the global market.

The Deputy Minister of Finance also lauded the successful collaboration between NIC, key partners and other stakeholders in developing the semiconductor ecosystem in Vietnam. He stressed that continued collaboration between the public and private sectors will be essential for the country to keep pace with global technological trends and position itself as a key player in the global semiconductor landscape.

The launch of the VSIC reinforces the commitment of NIC and its partners to establish a thriving semiconductor ecosystem in Vietnam. The centre will focus on resource gathering, high-quality human resource training and supporting the development of startups in the semiconductor sector.

This initiative aims to enhance Vietnam’s integration into the global semiconductor value chain, attract investment, promote talent development and strengthen its position as a regional hub for technological innovation.

To support these efforts, NIC and its partners are collaborating with global tech companies to offer scholarships and technical training for semiconductor students at approximately 40 Vietnamese universities.

Additionally, they have successfully attracted investment from prominent international tech conglomerates, which will help drive the growth of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam and establish the country as a significant player in the global market. This initiative will also contribute to expanding Vietnam’s technological influence worldwide, fostering further global cooperation and collaboration.
