Hillsboro-based Lattice Semiconductor is putting together a bid to buy Intel’s programmable chip operation, Bloomberg reported late Friday.
Intel has been seeking investors to buy a portion of the programmable chip business, known as Altera, and reports have said Intel believes the business is worth at least $15 billion. Intel paid nearly $17 billion for Altera in 2015 hoping its chips would augment Intel’s data center technology. Whatever benefits came from combining the companies, though, were evidently much smaller than Intel anticipated.
