A company aiming to create products to support the semiconductor industry is eyeing Peoria for its manufacturing facility.
Hyperion Technologies is aiming to build a 600,000-square-foot facility where it will manufacture high-density interconnect IC substrates, which are used to provide electrical connectivity for semiconductors.
According to Hyperion’s website, the company’s products allow for high-performance applications like aviation, defense, electric vehicles, consumer electronics and medical devices.
The project is estimated to create 1,500 direct jobs and 4,500 construction jobs, according to Hyperion’s website.
The project is planned over the course of four phases. According to the company’s website, it planned to receive preliminary site permits in the first half of 2024, but it is unclear if that milestone was reached. The company’s timeline lists an expected groundbreaking in the first half of 2025, and substantial completion by the end of 2026.
The company did not announce an exact location for the site, saying it would be “at the heart of the semiconductor innovation cluster in Peoria.” Amkor Technology Inc. is planning a $2 billion packing facility for the semiconductor industry in the Vistancia area, near Loop 303 and Lone Mountain Parkway.
The site is west of the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. facility in north Phoenix, where the semiconductor giant is building a $65 billion manufacturing facility.
In an emailed statement late Tuesday, Peoria said it hasn’t received a pre-application nor a site plan application for the project.
It added that the city wants to continue growing its economy “with a diverse portfolio of employment sectors.”
“Critical advanced semiconductor infrastructure remains part of our overall strategy to increase local employment opportunities and support supply chain security in our country,” the city stated.
