Semiconductor maker will build Bethlehem plant using $93M federal grant

A $93 million federal grant will help build a new plant in Bethlehem for a semiconductor manufacturer, according to news releases from the manufacturer and government officials.

Silicon Valley-based Infinera signed a non-binding preliminary memorandum of terms with the U.S. Department of Commerce to receive the funding, according to a news release from the company. The money will come from the CHIPS and Science Act, a law signed by President Joe Biden in 2022 to increase the research and manufacturing of semiconductors.

A news release from U.S. Sens. Bob Casey and John Fetterman, both D-Pa., and U.S. Rep. Susan Wild, D-7th Dist., says the federal investment will help the semiconductor manufacturer build a new plant in Bethlehem.
