Sony semiconductor unit to slash capital spending by 30%

TOKYO — Sony Group’s semiconductor arm on Friday announced plans for around 650 billion yen ($4.14 billion) in capital expenditures over the three years ending March 2027, roughly 30% less than in the preceding three years.

Sony Semiconductor Solutions produces mainly image sensors for smartphone cameras. It is curbing investments as profitability suffers, including from setbacks on a new mass production line that uses cutting-edge technology.
