State gets first semiconductor ATMP training facility

Ahmedabad: As part of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), the Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU) on Wednesday received the Semiconductor ATMP Training Facility, which is the first fab or fabrication unit of its kind in Gujarat so far. ATMP stands for Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging of semiconductors.
Experts said it is a joint initiative of PDEU, the department of science and technology of the state govt, Micron Technology, and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and will provide the required human resources for the upcoming semiconductor plants and design labs in Gujarat.
Prof S Sundar Manoharan, director general of PDEU, said this joint initiative intends to provide industry-focused hands-on training in the semiconductor sector and will train more than 1,000 personnel over five years. “These experts will be certified by all the stakeholders under the Skill India Mission,” he said.
The facility was inaugurated by Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel in the presence of senior representatives from all stakeholders. Experts from PDEU said the three machines are provided and installed by Micron Technology, which will give training on the entire process from chip dicing to testing.
