Trump says UAE to invest in US-produced semiconductors during Abu Dhabi business roundtable

United States President Donald Trump, addressing the US-UAE business roundtable in Abu Dhabi on Friday, emphasized the strength of America’s global trade negotiations and investment commitments. Trump claimed that as many as 150 countries had expressed interest in striking trade deals with the US.

Trump mentioned that the US had recently secured “fantastic” trade agreements with the United Kingdom and China. Without detailing the deals, Trump underlined that the US was engaging partners fairly, adding, “We are going to be very fair.”

Addressing regional issues, Trump acknowledged the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stating, “A lot of people are starving in Gaza.” However, no new policy announcements were made on the matter.

On the subject of semiconductors, Trump announced that the UAE has committed to investing in US-produced semiconductor projects. He also clarified that even if UAE companies build facilities inside the US, they would still be subjected to tariffs. “If they do it here, they have to pay a big tariff,” Trump stated.

Concluding his remarks, Trump confirmed plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin “as soon as we can set it up,” reiterating his claim that the Ukraine war resolution would likely follow such a meeting.

Wrapping up his Middle East visit, Trump remarked, “It has been a great time, but now it’s time to return home.”
