TN Budget 2025: Govt announces 2,000-acre modern city, Semiconductor Mission 2030, industrial parks in Trichy, Thoothukudi, Cuddalore, Pudukottai & more
A 2,000-acre modern city near Chennai with IT parks, Fin-Tech zones, R&D centres, and residential complexes, Semiconductor Mission 2030 and industrial parks in Trichy, Thoothukudi, Cuddalore and Pudukottai were some of the major announcements for the industries in the Tamil Nadu Budget 2025-26 presented by Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu on Friday.
The Minister announced ten new industrial training institutes (ITIs) with ₹152 crore investment, training 1,308 students annually. Further, seven ITIs for construction workers’ children, training 1,370 students per year was announced.
The Minister also announced ₹20,000 subsidy for 2,000 gig workers to buy electric scooters., group insurance for 1.5 lakh gig workers and new worker lounges in Chennai and Coimbatore.
Highlighting the Semiconductor Mission 2030 with ₹500 crore investment, the Minister said, “Semiconductor parks are being planned in Coimbatore (Sulur & Palladam, 100 acres each).”
The non-leather footwear hubs will create 1 lakh jobs, 80 per cent for women. Footwear parks are being planned in Madurai and Cuddalore, generating 20,000 jobs, he added.
Coimbatore Pump Industry Excellence Centres to boost foundry sector.
A new airport is being planned in Rameshwaram, and a sum of ₹2,938 crore has been earmarked to expanding Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy, and Thoothukudi airports.
Hosur is to become a new hub for Global Capability Centres, R&D, and IT, similar to OMR in Chennai. Bioscience Park near Chennai with high-end infrastructure for biotech and life sciences manufacturing.
The Minister also announced that the Tamil Nadu Maritime Transport Manufacturing Policy 2025 will drive investment in ship design, fabrication, and engine production, creating 30,000 jobs in Cuddalore and Thoothukudi.
